Emergency storm response

The only rational response to the storm approaching the village is to take cover, sit it out and eat buns.

I will still have some cinnamon buns, focaccia and sourdough loaves available tomorrow for anyone that wants to make a last minute order. They’ll be baked in time for pick from the community centre from 2pm.

Lovely new postcards

The Kilchoan Bakery now has some lovely new postcards to advertise with. If anyone in the area has a holiday house or attraction where they’d be happy to put some postcards I would be very grateful. Just let me know and I can drop some off. Many thanks (and probably sticky buns).Print

A new look

Kilchoan Bakery has a new logo thanks to the wonderful Gillian Blease. You should start seeing this and some new advertising popping up around the village over the next couple of weeks. In the meantime if anyone would like bread tomorrow, here’s what’s baking this week:

  • Cinnamon buns £1.25/ea
  • Seeded brown tin loaf £3.00
  • White tin loaf £3.00
  • Rye & caraway £3.25
  • Focaccia topped with tomato, goats cheese & caramelised onion £4.00
Order by 8am Wednesday to collect from the community centre from 2pm the same day.

Wednesday is buns day

Everyone’s heard of fish on Fridays but I’m starting the campaign now for buns on Wednesdays! Okay it might not have the same ring to it, but after the popularity of last week’s cinnamon buns, I’ll be doing another batch this week.

With the sourdough a bit sluggish still in this cold weather though, the bread of the week will be rye & caraway. So the following will be available:

  • Cinnamon buns £1.25/ea
  • Seeded brown tin loaf £3.00
  • White tin loaf £3.00
  • Rye & caraway £3.25
  • Focaccia topped with tomato, goats cheese & caramelised onion £4.00

Order by 8am Wednesday to collect from the community centre from 2pm the same day.

The east wind blows

Yes, it is very, very cold out there and yes, we are due to be without power tomorrow, which means I have every intention of hiding out in a very warm bakery for as long as possible on Thursday (one day later than usual, due to aforementioned lack of power).  I also think we might all be in need of a bit of a treat given the frosty conditions so, in addition to the regular loaves, I’ll also be making focaccia and cinnamon buns:

  • seeded brown tin loaf £3.00 (pictured)
  • white tin loaf £3.00
  • sourdough £3.50
  • focaccia topped with goats cheese, tomato & caramelised onion £4.00
  • cinnamon buns £1.25

If you would like to order any of the above please get in touch by 9am Thursday for delivery/collection later that day.

Stay cosy.

Toast by the fire

What better way to deal with the cold, windy weather than by snuggling in and making toast by the fire (new year resolutions should definitely wait until spring). If you’re in need of bread to do just that, I’ll be baking on Thursday this week*. The following will be available for collection from 2pm at the community centre:

  • white tin loaf £3.00
  • seeded brown £3.00
  • sourdough £3.50

Get any orders to me by Wednesday evening please. The bakery will then be shut for two weeks until the 7th February.

[* unless ‘thundersnow’ knocks out the power!]

It’s beginning to look a lot like…

…Christmas! Well, okay, no it’s not and, in fact, I’m not normally an advocate for mentioning the c word prior to December. However, I will have some Christmas cakes, mincemeat on sale at tomorrow’s producers’ market for anyone who hasn’t/won’t get round to making there own. There’ll also be the usual bread and I promise not to be too festive – I’m saving that for the Christmas market on the 2nd!

An early bake

The next day bread will be available is Wednesday 8th November. This week I’ll need to bake on Tuesday night for delivery early Wednesday though so please get your orders in at the earlier time of 12pm on Tuesday, or ideally Monday eve. Sorry, only the following will be available:

  • sourdough (850g) £3.50
  • seeded brown tin loaf (800g) £3.00
  • white tin loaf (800g) £3.00

I won’t be baking on the 15th but there will be more products at the produce market on the 22nd.

Experiments in gf

Following a number of requests, and despite my well publicised love of gluten, today I’ve been experimenting with a gluten free recipe. Made with a mix of organic gluten free flours, including maize, teff and sorghum flour, this first attempt is not long out the oven and I’m pretty pleased with the results.

I have a couple available for anyone who’s interested to try free of charge on a first come basis. Just let me know and I can drop off tomorrow at the community centre with other orders.
